I have not applied for the Tsinghua graduate program. Can I apply for scholarships at Tsinghua University first?
No.
Tsinghua University selects scholarship candidates only from pre-admitted students.
I have been offered scholarships by other institutions for my prospective graduate study at Tsinghua University. Shall I notify Tsinghua University?
Yes.
You should answer the scholarship questions in the Tsinghua Application Portal for Graduate Admission and specify the full name, contents, duration, and founder of the scholarship.
What scholarships can I apply for at Tsinghua University?
Tsinghua University mainly provides two kinds of scholarships for prospective full-time graduate students: CGS and Tuition Scholarships. For detailed information about the scholarships, please refer to Scholarship Introductions.
Do I need to pay application fees for the above-mentioned scholarships at Tsinghua University?
No.
Application fees for scholarships are not required. Applicants only need to pay the application fee for Tsinghua Graduate Programs.
Do I need to mail the hard copies of scholarship application documents to Tsinghua University?
No.
Scholarships such as CGS and tuition scholarships are applied online.
May I apply for multiple scholarships at the same time?
Yes.
But please note that some scholarships cannot be combined with other scholarships.
CGS and CGS Program Category Types
What is CGS and what does it cover?
Please refer to the CSC website or our Scholarship Introductions.
What is the duration of CGS?
Usually, the duration of CGS is 1-3 academic years for masters students and 3-4 academic years for doctoral students. The Admission Package will explicitly state the specific duration of your CGS.
*According to the rules and regulations of the CSC, CGS holders who have studied in China for more than one academic year should go through the Annual Review of Chinese Government Scholarship Status once a year. Within the scholarship duration, CGS holders who pass the annual review will continue to be sponsored by CGS for the next academic year. Otherwise, it will be suspended or terminated.
Could CGS be combined with other scholarships?
No, except for one-time awards.
How can I apply for CGS?
CGS includes a series of subprograms. Please refer to the CSC website for information about their application.
What does CGS Program Category Type A/B refer to respectively?
The CSC application system clarifies the meaning of CGS Program Category Type A and Type B. Please read the definitions carefully before applying.
In general, Type A refers to CGS programs administered by authorities other than Chinese universities. For example, the Chinese embassies in your countries. Type B refers to scholarship programs administered by Chinese universities under CGS-Chinese University Program.
CGS Application Documents
Which documents are required for CGS application of Type A and B respectively?
The CSC website states CGS application document requirements for each program. For Type B, you may also refer to the Scholarship Introductions at Tsinghua University.
When shall I get the CGS application documents prepared?
Considering the required application documents and their period of validation, applicants should prepare the documents properly in advance. For example, the HSK result is valid for two years (beginning from the test date); the result of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form is valid for only 6 months.
My application documents are not in English or Chinese. What should I do?
Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
I am a prospective diploma winner and have not received the diploma. Which document shall I upload to the “Diploma and certificate of my highest education” required by the CGS online application?
You must submit the certificate of expected graduation or official proof of student status from your current school.
Is there a standard Foreigner Physical Examination Form?
Yes. It is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. Download the Foreigner Physical Examination Form
What is the basic requirement of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form required by the CGS online application?
The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
I have been pre-admitted by a Chinese-taught program at Tsinghua University. Chinese is one of my native languages. Can I be exempted from valid HSK Certificate for the CGS application?
No.
Where can I get a Non-Criminal Record Report?
The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record (or Police Clearance Certificate) issued by the local public security authority (such as your local police station), usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
Can I sign a commitment with Tsinghua University as a substitute for the Non-Criminal Record Report?
No.
An exception might be given in the case where the relevant authorities in your country do not issue such a report as a common practice.
CGS of Program Category Type A
Where do I apply for and get information regarding the Type A CGS?
You may refer to the CSC website for details.
How can I get the Agency Number for Type A?
You should consult the authorities in charge of your Type A program, for example, the Chinese Embassies or Consulates in your country.
Shall I notify Tsinghua University if I am applying for CGS through other organizations instead of Tsinghua University?
Yes.
You should answer the scholarship questions in the Tsinghua Application Portal for Graduate Admission to notify us about your CGS application channel or inform your school/department.
I have been pre-admitted by a program with high tuition fees at Tsinghua University. Can I apply for CGS Type A?
Yes, but you should pay the difference between the tuition standard of your graduate program and the tuition support of CGS.
Which programs are the high-tuition programs?

The CGS application authority requires me to provide a Pre-Admission Letter from Tsinghua University. Which department should I contact to ask for the letter?
For the Pre-Admission Letter, you should contact the pre-admitted school/department/program.
My CGS Type A application is declined by relevant authorities. Can I apply for CGS Type B through Tsinghua University?
It depends.
In principle, applicants should choose one application channel and the number of Type B candidates that could be nominated by Tsinghua University is very limited. Only a few students that are outstanding but have been rejected from the Type A application might be specially considered by the schools/departments under the condition that 1) they meet all the requirements of Type B CGS from Tsinghua University; and 2) the recommendation by schools/departments to Tsinghua University has not been closed.
I have been recommended as a CGS Type A candidate by the relevant authorities to the CSC, but the result has not been released yet. Can I apply for CGS Type B through Tsinghua University as well?
No.
Where and when can I know the result of my Type A CGS application?
You should consult the relevant authorities in charge of your Type A program.
If I enroll in Tsinghua University but fail to be offered CGS this year, can I apply for CGS Type A again in the future?

CGS of Program Category Type B
What are the eligibilities of applying for CGS through Tsinghua University (Type B)?

I am a current scholarship graduate student at another university and my current scholarship doesn't expire until September, 2024. Can I apply for CGS Type B through Tsinghua University?
No.
Is there any age limit for the CGS Type B application?

I have been pre-admitted by a joint-degree graduate program at Tsinghua University. Can I apply for CGS Type B through Tsinghua University?
No.
According to the rules and regulations of CSC, CGS Type B is not open to joint-degree graduate programs. You may consult relevant authorities in advance to see if it is possible to apply for CGS Type A.
I have been pre-admitted by a program with high tuition fees at Tsinghua University. Can I apply for CGS Type B?
It depends. You should consult your program in advance for scholarship inquiries. Many high-tuition programs do not participate in the CGS Type B recommendation, while some might recommend very few extraordinary CGS candidates for Type B to the University.

I am not eligible to apply for CGS through Tsinghua University. What can I do as an alternative?
You can consult relevant authorities in charge of CGS Type A programs or search for other scholarships.

What is the agency number of Tsinghua University as it is required by the CGS online application?
Your school/department will inform you the agency number by email if they might recommend you as a CGS candidate to the University.
May I apply for CGS through Tsinghua University without the recommendation of my target school/department?
No.
Such applications will not be considered or processed.
My professor recommends me as a CGS candidate. Does it mean that the school/department will definitely recommend me to the University?
No.
My school/department recommends me as a CGS candidate to the University. Does it mean that I will be nominated by Tsinghua University for CGS to the CSC?
No.
Tsinghua University will select CGS candidates based on the recommendation of schools/departments，requirements of CSC, and the number limit of the year made by higher authorities.
When is the deadline for the CGS Type B application through Tsinghua University?
Your school/department will inform you the deadline for CGS Type B application by email if they might recommend you as a CGS candidate to the University. Please note that applicants for CGS should complete the application for graduate programs at Tsinghua University as early as possible (highly recommended to complete before December 15, 2023.) Otherwise, you may miss the deadline of some CGS Type B programs. Tsinghua University only selects scholarship candidates from pre-admitted students.
*If the selected CGS candidates cannot be reached or fail to complete the CGS online application in time, it will be treated as a renouncement of candidacy.
I am applying for CGS through other Chinese Universities. May I get nominated by Tsinghua University as well if I have been nominated by another university as a CGS candidate to the CSC?
No.
According to the regulations and system settings of CSC, if the applicator has been nominated by one of his/her applied universities to the CSC, the other universities are not allowed to nominate him/her.
I have been recommended by Tsinghua University as a CGS candidate. Does it mean that I am offered the CGS?
No.
The CSC will organize designated universities and experts concerned to examine applicants’ eligibility and academic performance before finalizing the short-list candidates and make the final decision.
When will I get to know if I have been nominated by Tsinghua University for CGS to the CSC?
The CGS candidates who have been nominated by Tsinghua University will be notified by schools/departments (usually by email) after the nomination to the CSC.
When can I get to know the result of my CGS Type B application?
The CSC will organize designated universities and experts concerned to examine applicants’ eligibility and academic performance before finalizing the short-list candidates and make the final decision. Usually, the result will be released in July to August (the specific schedule is subject to the notice of CSC).
How can I get the final result of my CGS Type B application through Tsinghua University?
You will be notified once Tsinghua university receives the result from CSC. Besides, Tsinghua University will send you the final admission package which includes the result of CGS.
If I enroll in Tsinghua University but fail to be offered CGS this year, can I apply for CGS Type B through Tsinghua University again in the future?
No.
According to rules and regulations of CSC, CGS Type B is open to prospective students only. As a current student without CGS, you may consult the relevant authorities in charge of CGS Type A programs.
Tuition Scholarships
What does Tuition Scholarships refer to?
Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS), and Tsinghua University Tuition Scholarship, etc.
What are the duration and content of Tuition Scholarships?
The Tuition Scholarship covers full or partial tuition with the duration of one academic year, and applicants can apply annually (competitive).
What are the eligibilities of Tuition Scholarships?

Is there any age limit for Tuition Scholarships application?
No.
When and how do I apply for Tuition Scholarships?

Do I need to download and fill out the Tuition Scholarship Application Form?
No.
Prospective students do not need to fill out extra application forms for Tuition Scholarship. Tuition Scholarship candidates are selected from outstanding pre-admitted applicants according to their intention of scholarship application in the system of Application for Graduate admission.
Can I apply for both the CGS and Tuition Scholarships?
Yes, but please note that CGS can not be combined with Tuition scholarships.
When can I get to know the result of my Tuition Scholarship application?
The result will be released in June to August usually (the specific schedule is subject to the notice of the organization concerned).
How can I get the final result of my Tuition Scholarship application?
It will be elaborated on your Appendix to the Admission Notice.
If I fail to be offered the Tuition Scholarship this year, may I apply for it again in the future?
Yes.

Are there any scholarships specially for my program or established by my school/department? Where can I get the information?
