Overview

Rooted in Tsinghua University’s century-old tradition of humanistic scholarship, the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science was originally established in 1926 and relaunched in April 2024. We are  committed to cultivating exceptional, globally minded talents with innovative capabilities and a profound sense of social responsibility. The department is dedicated to advancing cutting-edge research and education in two key interdisciplinary directions: cognition and intelligence, which explore the mechanisms of intelligence, and social and health, which focus on the psychological foundations of human well-being.

Our department offers two interdisciplinary research orientations that combine advanced theory with real-world impact:

Cognition and Intelligence

This track explores the mechanisms of human and machine intelligence through integrative research in cognitive science, neuroscience, and computational approaches. Students engage with cutting-edge developments in both natural and artificial cognition.

Society and Health

Focused on field-based and applied research, this track uses psychological science within unique cultural contexts—particularly Chinese society—and innovative methodologies to address pressing health and social challenges.

Ø Student Development

We employ an innovative education framework designed for the era of “Psychology + AI”. Students will develop:

A strong interdisciplinary foundation in psychology, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence.

Systematic training in advanced experimental and research methods.

A global perspective, preparing them for international academic and professional careers.
