
Overview
Tsinghua University Vanke School of Public Health (VSPH) was newly established on April 2, 2020 in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Margaret Chan, the Former Director-General and Emeritus Director-General of the World Health Organization, is the founding dean of the School. The establishment of the School is a historic milestone for Tsinghua University, as it actively undertakes its mission to shoulder the responsibility of addressing national and global challenges, development priorities and needs. It is also a timely disciplinary response to major global public health issues.

Since its founding, the Vanke School of Public Health has embraced the vision of becoming a world-leading school of public health with global impact. The School has explored the establishment of an innovative talent training paradigm in public health, striving to cultivate leading talents in the field of public health.
Inheriting the legacy of Tsinghua University, the Vanke School of Public Health shoulders the responsibility to nuture the pillars of the nation. Four disciplinary focus areas include: public health security, big health (healthcare service), big data in health care, public health policy and management. Over the past two years, the School has established close cooperation with public sectors in China to develop practice bases for students and provide students with a full range of practical opportunities. Working together with Science, engineering, humanities and social sciences, laws, medicine and other disciplines, the School aims to establish an interdisciplinary innovation platform for public health, and perform academic research on global health governance system, climate change and public health, health policy and system innovation, public health emergency response and major epidemic prevention and control technology, and big data-driven public health issues based on the frontier requirements of the field, key disciplines and the urgent needs of social development.
